Initiated by parents of mentally handicapped children the District Office in Michalovce established on 1 February 1994 the Institute of Social Care for Children and Youth in Michalovce as an independent financial organization for an indefinite period of time.

The Institute has been providing 16 years of assistance to families with disabled children from Michalovce and from the surroundings (Košice).
